I have not included an Adult Adoptee section, because I believe that adult adoptees can benefit from many of the books in any of these categories. I especially urge adoptees who are searching to learn as much as they can about the experience of being a birth mother--both relinquishing her child and being reunited with him or her. The media stresses only the happily-ever-after reunion stories, but the reality is that not all reunions are happily-every-after. It is important that adoptees who are searching be prepared for the possibility of rejection, and try to understand why a birth mother might not be able to accept her birth child back into her life.
